The harsh reality of winter for refugees

Winter in Za’atari refugee camp, Jordan, is brutal. The freezing wind, rain and snow storms cover the thin and fragile shelters that refugees like Ghassiba and her grandchildren call home.

Ghasiba tries desperately to keep her family warm with blankets and extra clothing, but the storms are relentless.

This is the harsh reality for so many refugees and displaced people across the world living in tents, makeshift shelters and derelict buildings.

Thanks to the support of this community, UNHCR has been able to provide Ghassiba and her family with a heater for the cold winter months and weatherproof her shelter to keep out the storms.

But there is so much more to be done to help families like Ghassiba’s.
