Soon the green carpet will be rolled out again in the city of Zurich and golden eyes will be looking at you everywhere. The Zurich Film Festival ZFF is about to start!
From 3rd to 13th October, international film stars will gathr around Sechseläutenplatz. In recent years, it has been the case for several of them, strongly committed to UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, such as Hollywood star and UNHCR Goodwill Ambassador Cate Blanchett. Audiences will be able to discover 100 films from across the globe.
Tickets go on sale today. Here you can get a seat for your favourite film - and donate to us at the same time.
Because Switzerland for UNHCR is a charity partner of the ZFF. This means that you can enjoy a visit to the cinema and support displaced people around the world at the same time.
Furthermore, the BORDER LINES section at the ZFF is the materialisation of this partnership, meaning that you will be able to know a bit more about our Foundation around the screenings taking place within this category. The section shows films that deal with human rights issues. These include current world events, activist and humanitarian projects, conflicts and social tensions. Finally, after the screening of the documentary ‘Sudan - Remember Us’ on 10 October evening, we will also be holding a panel discussion in the Frame cinema. The filmmaker Hind Meddeb will be present, as well as el-Wathig el-Gozoli from the Sudanese Swiss Charity and a staff member of UNHCR. We will discuss the situation in Sudan, a country that has been shaken by crises for years. In April 2023, a new war broke out and more than 10 million people have since been displaced from their homes. A hunger crisis broke out, and cholera and other diseases are spreading. Sudan is currently the biggest humanitarian crisis in the world - and yet it is barely noticeable here in our country. The country seems too far away, too unknown, other issues dominate the headlines too much. But the displaced people in Sudan urgently need help. Help that UNHCR can only provide to a limited extent, as resources are scarce.
The people of Sudan are in urgent need of support from all of us.
We would therefore be delighted if you would think of us when you buy your ticket. And we would be particularly pleased if you would choose ‘Sudan - Remember Us’ on 10 October and attend the panel discussion afterwards.
We need to look at Sudan, and not just in the cinemas!
Thank you very much for your support and have fun at the ZFF.
